AWARD WINNING DOCUMENTARY
“CITIZEN TANOUYE”
COMES TO AMERICAN PUBLIC TELEVISION
The story of Medal of Honor recipient Tech/Sgt Ted T. Tanouye, as told through the research of eight Torrance, California high school students, “Citizen Tanouye,” will get national exposure with its broadcast on American Public Television stations. This award winning film, presented by WGBH Boston, has garnered “IFFF Best Documentary” and “Audience Choice” awards during its film festival run, and is also the recipient of the Telly statuette and Accolade Award. Craig Yahata and Robert Horsting, who share Producer and Director title, are very honored by this opportunity to share this chronicle of discovery and sacrifice with a coast-to-coast audience.
For the students seeking out the facts of Tanouye’s life, history comes off the page as they uncover articles from sources long forgotten and meet veterans, friends and family, each adding a piece to the puzzle of this story. Those already familiar with the exploits of the 442nd RCT or the domestic history of W.W.II era America may enjoy the rediscovery of viewing this period through the youthful eyes of these energetic researchers
“Citizen Tanouye” will be broadcast in May as part of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month observance. Please contact your local public television station for broadcast date and time.
